One of the best parts about holidays is creating holiday traditions, and we value our own shared traditions here at Clearview. One of our favorite Thanksgiving traditions is gathering supplies for Thanksgiving dinner baskets to donate to local food pantries.
For years, each branch and each department at Clearview has sponsored a Thanksgiving basket, and the employees purchase everything necessary for a complete Thanksgiving feast for a family of four. Everything from potatoes, gravy and stuffing to coffee and pumpkin pie ingredients is included, so each recipient family can prepare a Thanksgiving dinner from start to finish. Rather than include fresh turkey, grocery gift cards are often included with non-perishables.
It’s all organized, wrapped (usually in a functional basket or laundry bin for the recipient to reuse later) and delivered to the local food pantry. Each basket is uniquely created by a different group of employees and includes special touches from candles and family recipes to table cloths, festive napkins and more.
This year, our branches each donated baskets to their local food pantries, and our corporate office in Moon Township donated 17 complete Thanksgiving baskets to their neighbors at the West Hills Food Pantry.
We’ve been lucky to grow great relationships with people like Sandy Hershberger, the West Hills Food Pantry Coordinator (above) and other volunteers who keep things going strong in our communities, and we’re so grateful to contribute to their mission of feeding local families and seniors. As a community credit union, it’s our mission to serve our members and the communities in which they live, so this is just one way small way we choose to give back.
